Washington DC Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability

Reciprocity: Washington DC has reciprocity with Virginia and also with Maryland if you were licensed after 1996. 

 

Steps to Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Reciprocity in Washington DC:

  • Step 1: Complete a 3-hour DC Real Estate Commission (DCREC) approved Fair Housing course and a 3-hour DCREC-approved 3-hour Property Management course.
  • Step 2: Take and pass the Washington DC portion of the salesperson exam.
  • Step 3: Provide an original letter of license certification from your licensing jurisdiction.
  • Step 4: Apply for your license within 6 months of passing your exam. 

Endorsement: Residents from states (other than Virginia or if you were licensed in Maryland before 1996) that meet or exceed Washington DC’s 60-hour pre-licensing education requirement can qualify for endorsement.  

 

Steps to Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Endorsement in Washington DC:

  • Step 1: Meet or exceed the District’s 60-hour pre-licensing education requirements in the jurisdictions from which you are applying.
  • Step 2: Complete a 3-hour DC Real Estate Commission (DCREC) approved Fair Housing course and a 3-hour DCREC-approved 3-hour Property Management course.
  • Step 3: Take and pass the Washington DC portion of the Salesperson exam.
  • Step 4: Provide an original letter of license certification from your licensing jurisdiction.
  • Step 5: Apply for your license.
