Alabama Real Estate Salesperson Licensing

Requirements to Obtain a Salesperson License:
  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.
  • Show proof of high school graduation or equivalent
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude
  • Complete 60 hours of required education within one year of purchase.
  • Take the Alabama and National Licensing Exam within six months of passing pre-licensing course. If you have questions, visit www.pearsonvue.com. 
  • Apply for the state license within 90 days of your exam date, or the exam is null and void. Applications are located at www.arec.alabama.gov

Alabama Real Estate Broker Licensing

Requirements to Obtain a Broker’s License:

  • Be at least 19 years old
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.
  • Show proof of high school graduation or equivalent
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude
  • Complete 60 hours of required education within one year of purchase.
  • Take the Alabama Broker Exam
  • Must have held an active salesperson license in any state for at least 24 months of the 36 months immediately preceding the date of application
  • Complete, sign, and submit the Broker licensing application provided by the Alabama Real Estate Commission and the required fee within 90 days of passing the license exam.

Real Estate Salesperson Post-Licensing

Education Requirements to Renew a Salesperson License the First Time:

  • Complete the 30-hour post-license course for salespersons within the first six months of licensure—for active licensees—and within one year for inactive licensees.
  • No post-license requirement for brokers
  • The Original Salesperson license deadline requires the proper application to be completed and submitted with payment after completing the post-license course.

Real Estate Salesperson Continuing Education

  • Every two years, 15 clock hours of continuing education are required to renew an active license. These hours must be completed by September 30th, 2022.  The fifteen-hour continuing education course requirement is as follows:
    • Twelve clock hours in Commission-approved courses

Real Estate Broker Continuing Education

  • Every two years, 15 clock hours of continuing education are required to renew an active license. These hours must be completed by September 30th, 2022. The 15-hour continuing education course requirement is as follows:
    • Twelve clock hours in Commission-approved courses
