Ohio Salesperson Pre-licensing Education Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be honest, truthful, and of good reputation
- Be sponsored by an Ohio broker
- Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude. - Provide proof of a high school diploma or equivalent if born after 1950
- Be sponsored by an Ohio broker
- Complete the following education requirements:
- 40 hours—Real Estate Principles and Practices
- 40 hours—Ohio Real Estate Law (including instruction in civil rights, housing discrimination, and desegregation problems)
- 10 hours—Real Estate Appraisal
- 10 hours—Real Estate Finance
- 40 hours—Real Estate Principles and Practices
- Submit completed application with fees
- Pass the state and national exam
Ohio Broker Pre-licensing Education Requirements
- Applicants must hold an active salesperson license for 2 of the last 5 years and comply with the following requirements:
- If licensed before 1/1/1972, no further education is required
- If licensed after 1/1/1972, but before 1/03/1984, applicant must have taken the required 120 hours including courses 1–4 listed below
- If licensed on or after 1/3/1984, applicants must have taken the 8 courses listed below and possess a minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education, or the equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours
- If licensed before 1/1/1972, no further education is required
- Education Requirements:
- Ohio Real Estate Law (40 hours)
- Ohio Real Estate Principles & Practices (40 hours)
- Real Estate Appraisal (10 hours)
- Real Estate Finance (10 hours)
- A Financial Management course
- A Human Resources or Personnel Management course
- An Applied Business Economics course
- A Business Law Course
- A minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education, or equivalent hours of (60) sixty semesters or (90) ninety quarter hours

Ohio Salesperson Post-Licensing Education Requirements
- No later than 12 months after licensure, salesperson licensees are required to submit proof that they have completed 20 hours of education
- For licensees to submit their proof of post licensing education completion, please email a copy of the attendance certificate to postcert@com.ohio.gov
Ohio Broker Post-Licensing Education Requirements
- No later than 12 months after licensure, Broker licensees are required to submit proof that they have completed 10 hours of education.
- For licensees to submit their proof of post-licensing education completion, please email a copy of the attendance certificate to postcert@com.ohio.gov
Ohio Salesperson and Broker Continuing Education Requirements
- Renewal periods are on the licensee’s birthday occurring 3 years after the licensee’s date of initial licensure, and on or before the licensee’s birthday every 3 years thereafter
- Renewals are done online through the Elicensing system on or before due date
- Licensees must complete 30 hours of education to include:
- 3 hours of instruction in Ohio Real Estate Law, recently enacted state and federal laws affecting the real estate industry
- 3 hours of instruction in municipal, state, and federal civil rights law
- 3 hours of instruction in canon of ethics for the real estate industry as adopted by the Commission
- 3-hour Broker Responsibility course (if licensed as a broker, broker on deposit, or acting as a management level licensee)
- Pay any applicable fee
- If Online Renewal is unavailable, it is the licensee’s obligation to make certain the renewal by mail and that it is filed on time. Information on the mail-in process can be found on the Ohio Department of Commerce website.

Complaint or Grievance Procedure:
All student complaints should be first directed to the school personnel involved. If no resolution is forthcoming, a written complaint shall be submitted to the director of the school.
