Salesperson Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be able to read, write, and understand the English language
  • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Successfully complete 60 hours of pre-licensing education
  • Complete examination and apply for licensure within 6 months of passing exam

Broker Pre Licensing Education Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be able to read, write, and understand English
  • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Successfully complete 135 hours education 
  • Have 2 years of experience as a licensed salesperson; the active license must immediately precede the application date 
  • Pass both the National and State exams and apply for licensure within 6 months of passing 

Salesperson Continuing Education and Requirements

  • At least 60 days prior to expiration, the Commission shall send a renewal application to licensees at the last known address
  • Renewals are every two years after initial licensure by August 31st of odd-numbered years
  • Complete 15 hours of education to include 12 credit hours of mandatory courses (3 credit hours each in DC Fair Housing, DC Ethics, DC Legislative Update and Property Management) with curriculum decided by the Commission, and 3 credit hours of electives.

Broker Continuing Education Requirements

  • At least 60 days prior to expiration, the Commission shall send a renewal application to licensees at the last known address
  • Renewals are every two years after initial licensure by February 28th of odd-numbered years
  • Complete 15 hours of education to include 15 credit hours of mandatory courses (3 credit hours each in DC Fair Housing, DC Ethics, DC Legislative Update, Property Management and Broker Supervision) with curriculum decided by the Commission.
