Real Estate Salesperson Prelicensing Education Requirements

A. Be at least 18 years old
B. Be honest, truthful, and of good reputation
C. Be sponsored by an Ohio broker
D. Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime of moral turpitude. See additional verbiage in state ruling here: www.com.ohio.gov/documents/real_RequirementsSalespersonLicense.pdf
E. Provide proof of a high school diploma or equivalent if born after 1950
F. Complete the following education requirements:

a. 40 hours—Real Estate Principles and Practices
b. 40 hours—Ohio Real Estate Law (including instruction in Civil Rights, Housing Discrimination, and Desegregation Problems)
c. 20 hours—Real Estate Appraisal
d. 20 hours—Real Estate Finance

G. Submit completed application with fees
H. Pass the state and national exam

Real Estate Broker Prelicensing Education Requirements

A. Applicants must hold an active salesperson license for two of the last five years and comply with the following requirements:

a. If licensed before 1/1/1972, no further education is required
b. If licensed after 1/1/1972, but before 1/03/1984, applicant must have taken the required 120 hours (courses a–d listed below)
c. If licensed after 1/3/1984, applicants must take courses a–h listed below and possess a minimum of two years of post-secondary education (i) or the equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours

B. Education Requirements:

a. Ohio Real Estate Law (40 hours)
b. Ohio Real Estate Principles & Practices (40 hours)
c. Real Estate Appraisal (20 hours)
d. Real Estate Finance (20 hours)
e. A Financial Management course
f. A Human Resources or Personnel Management course
g. An Applied Business Economics course
h. A Business Law Course
i. A minimum of two years of post-secondary education or equivalent hours of 60 semesters or 90 quarter hours. Courses e–h may be included in your post-secondary education

C. Experience Requirements:

a. The Division calculates the transactions to ensure the applicant meets the required amount

Real Estate Salesperson and Broker Post-Licensing Education Requirements

A. No later than 12 months after licensure, salesperson licensees are required to submit proof that they have completed 20 hours of education

Real Estate Salesperson Continuing Education Requirements

A. Renewal periods are on licensee’s birthday occurring three years after the licensee’s date of initial licensure and on or before the licensee’s birthday every three years thereafter
B. Renewals are done online through the Elicensing system on or before the due date
C. Licensees must complete 30 hours of education to include:

a. Nine hours including instruction in Ohio Real Estate law, recently enacted state and federal laws affecting the real estate industry, municipal, state, and federal civil rights law, and cannon of ethics for the real estate industry as adopted by the commission

D. Pay any applicable fee

Real Estate Broker Continuing Education Requirements

A. Renewal periods are on licensee’s birthday occurring three years after the licensee’s date of initial licensure and on or before the licensee’s birthday every three years thereafter
B. Renewals are done online through the Elicensing system on or before the due date
C. Licensees must complete 30 hours of education to include:

a. Nine hours of education including instruction in Ohio Real Estate Law, recently enacted state and federal laws affecting the real estate industry, municipal, state, and federal civil rights law, and canon of ethics for the real estate industry as adopted by the commission
b. Three-hour education on the duties of a principal broker and other issues involved in operating a real estate brokerage

D. Pay any applicable fee
