The state of California requires that you renew your real estate license every four years. For your first California real estate license renewal, you will be required to complete a 45-hour first renewal course. Your second and subsequent renewals, all real estate brokers and salesperson with an expiration date on or after 1/1/2016 or who are renewing on a late basis on or after 1/1/2016 must complete 45 hours of continuing education that consists of one 8-hour survey course covering the six mandatory subjects of Agency, Ethics, Trust Fund Handling, Fair Housing, Risk Management, and Management and Supervision or you may choose to take each of the mandatory subjects separately. In addition, you must complete a minimum of 18 hours of consumer protection courses. The remaining hours required may consist of either consumer service or consumer protection courses.
