Utah Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability
- Average time to complete licensing education: 4.3 months
- State Governing Body: Utah Division of Real Estate
Reciprocity: Utah offers partial reciprocity in the following states: Georgia and Mississippi; as well as in Alberta, Canada.
Steps to Real Estate License Reciprocity in Utah:
- Step 1: Submit original and certified license history (no more than 6 months old) from the jurisdiction where you are currently actively licensed and which has a reciprocity agreement with Utah
- Step 2: Provide original and certified license histories (no more than 6 months old) from all other jurisdictions where you have previously held a real estate license
- Step 3: Submit two FBI FD-258 fingerprint cards
- Step 4: Create a UtahID account and apply for a real estate license
- Step 5: Applicants with an active real estate license in good standing from a state that does not have a reciprocity agreement with Utah may qualify for a waiver of some education and/or national exam requirements
Military Portability:
- Military spouses stationed in Utah can work in licensed professions without needing a Utah license, provided they hold an active license from another U.S. state or territory
- Military spouses may need to inform employers or the public about this benefit if questions arise regarding the validity of their out-of-state license. To help, the Division has created a verification letter military spouses can use to show an employer or member of the public that explains this exemption. Download the verification letter here.
