Ohio Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability
- Average time to complete licensing education: 20 days
- State Governing Body: Ohio Real Estate Commission
Reciprocity: Ohio offers partial reciprocity in the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Steps to Real Estate License Reciprocity in Ohio:
- Step 1: Must hold an out-of-state license substantially similar to Ohio’s real estate sales license or have a government certification from a state that does not issue a license
- Step 2: The out-of-state license or government certification must have been held for at least one year before applying
- Step 3: Actively practiced for at least 1 of the last 5 years, with a potential waiver by the Commission
- Step 4: Complete an application and secure sponsorship from an Ohio real estate broker
- Step 5: Pay a $135 application fee.
- Step 6: Submit an Ohio and national background check
- Step 7: Provide a letter of good standing for all jurisdictions in which you hold an out-of-state sales license or government certification
- Step 8: Complete a consent to service of process statement
- Step 9: Provide proof of completion of 20 transactions or equivalent experience as adopted by the Commission
- Step 10: Pass the state portion of the Ohio real estate examination
Military Portability:
- State agencies may issue temporary licenses to military spouses in good standing in another state
- Military spouses must submit to a criminal record check, if required
- All licensing fees for temporary licenses are waived
- Temporary licenses are valid for a period not to exceed 6 years
- Licenses shall be issued within 30 days of receipt of an application or, if a criminal records check is required, within 14 days of receiving the results
