Kansas Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability

Requirements for Out-of-State Salespeople:
- Complete the Kansas Practice Course
- Complete the Kansas Broker Law Course (not required, but is highly recommended)
- Pass the State Licensing Exam at a Pearson VUE Test Center near you
- Complete a fingerprint background check
- Submit license application
Military Portability:
- State agencies will issue licenses to military spouses within 15 days of receiving an application
- If the spouse doesn’t meet Kansas licensure requirements, a probationary license will be issued if they have a valid license from another state with a similar scope of practice, at least one year of experience, no disciplinary actions or disqualifying criminal record, and pay all fees
- The probationary license will be valid for up to 6 months, at which point it will automatically become permanent
- Additional testing, training, or education may be required if the spouse has not been active in the profession for the previous 2 years
- If Kansas requires a license but the state of origin does not, the spouse may still qualify for a license if they have at least 3 years of work experience in the previous 4 years
- If the state of origin issues private certification instead of a license, the spouse may be granted a license if they have certification in good standing, 2 years of experience, and pay all fees
- Temporary licenses may be granted if the spouse’s license from another state has a different scope of practice, allowing them time to meet Kansas-specific requirements

There are state and national portions of the Kansas real estate exam, both with a scaled passing score of 70. Raw scores are converted into scaled scores that can range from 0 to 100.
