Iowa Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability

Reciprocity: Iowa offers partial reciprocity in the following states: Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, and North Dakota. 

 

Steps to Real Estate License Reciprocity in Iowa:

  • Step 1: Receive original license from home state
  • Step 2: Submit a background check
  • Step 3: Request certificate of license history with the method of licensure
  • Step 4: Obtain E&O Insurance in Iowa

Military Portability:

  • State agencies will issue licenses without examination to military spouses licensed in good standing from another state, provided they have no disqualifying criminal history
  • The military spouse must meet minimum experience and education requirements, pass any required examination in their previous state, and pay all required fees
  • A state agency may require an examination specific to local laws. If an examination is required, the agency will issue a temporary license valid for three months, with the option to renew for an additional three months.
