Tennessee Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability

Reciprocity: Tennessee does not offer reciprocity

  • Requirements for Out-of-State Salespeople
    • If you hold a real estate license in another state, you may still qualify under Tennessee statute to have your real estate education, the national portion of the exam, and/or your experience (if applying for a broker license) substitute for Tennessee's education, the national portion of the examination, and/or experience

Military Portability

  • Military servicemembers and spouses in Tennessee may qualify for an exemption from licensure requirements when moving to the state
  • Active-duty members, veterans, or spouses can apply for this exemption with the Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) Regulatory Boards division
  • The exemption allows military-affiliated individuals to expedite gaining professional licensure in Tennessee
  • Applicants must provide proof of their military status and any applicable licenses held from another state to apply
