New Mexico Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability

  • Average time to complete licensing education: 2.5 months
  • State governing body: New Mexico Real Estate Commission 

Reciprocity
New Mexico offers partial reciprocity with these states: Massachusetts, Louisiana, and Georgia

  • Steps to Real Estate License Reciprocity in New Mexico
    • Submit application
    • Provide proof of licensure history
    • A person not licensed to practice real estate in New Mexico must pass the real estate broker’s examination as prescribed by the New Mexico Real Estate Commission
    • All other states must go through the complete licensing process

Military Portability

  • A board may issue a temporary or provisional license, including an expedited license valid for 1 year, to individuals licensed in another jurisdiction
  • State agencies shall provide provisional licenses to military spouses within 30 days of application if the spouse holds a license in good standing from another jurisdiction
  • Licensing fees are waived for the first 3 years

  • Proof of experience (3 years for non-supervising, 5 for supervising) and proof of transactions
