Kentucky Real Estate Licensing Information, Reciprocity, and Portability

Reciprocity: Kentucky offers reciprocal agreements with the following states:

  • Florida, Illinois, Ohio, and Tennessee
  • Steps to Real Estate License Reciprocity in Kentucky:
    • Step 1: Pass the Kentucky 40-hour reciprocal law course
    • Step 2: Submit fingerprints
    • Step 3: Provide proof of E&O coverage
    • Florida:
      • Sales Associate: 1 year as a licensed sales associate
      • Broker: 2 years as a licensed broker
    • Illinois:
      • Sales Associate: 1 year as a broker
      • Broker: 2 years as a managing broker or eligibility for a managing broker’s license
    • Ohio:
      • Sales Associate: 1 year as a licensed sales associate
      • Broker: 2 years as a licensed broker
    • Tennessee:
      • Sales Associate: 1 year as an associate broker
      • Broker: 3 years as a licensed broker

Military Portability:

  • State agencies will issue licenses to military spouses in good standing within 30 days of completing an application, unless significant gaps in prior education or training pose a health or safety risk
  • Temporary or regular licenses will also be issued within 30 days
  • Temporary licenses are valid for 6 months and cannot be renewed
  • Some licensing fees may be waived or reduced
