This hands-on course covers how real property is mapped and described in New Mexico.
You will learn through fast-moving, hands-on comprehensive coursework that covers map and survey reading, how to locate property lines from metes and bounds, and topographical maps. You will also become familiar with the use of a compass, engineers scale, longitude and latitude templates for mapping, GPS for the purpose of locating property, and the New Mexico Uniform Parcel Code system used by county mappers and assessors.
You will learn the New Mexico history for property grants and descriptions; different types of legal descriptions; use of a compass and GPS to assist the real estate professional; using USGS maps to pinpoint property using longitude and latitude; sources for property boundary information in New Mexico; discussion of the different measurement tools and methods of locating property, and much more.
This course is a core elective.
