Certified Trainee Appraiser Education Requirements

A. Be 18  years of age or older
B. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
C. Pass background check and submit fingerprints to state
D. Have successfully completed 79 hours of education as follows:

a. Basic Appraisal Principles -30 hours
b. Basic Appraisal Procedures- 30 hours
c. National USPAP Course- 15 hours
d. Supervisor and Trainee Course- 4 hours
e. All education must have been completed within 5 year immediately preceding the application.

E. Obtain a Certified Residential Appraiser to work with
F. Take exam and pay applicable fees

Certified Residential Appraiser Education Requirements

A. Be 18 years of age or older
B. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
C. Pass background check and submit fingerprints to state
D. Complete 200 hours of education to include:

a. Basic Appraisal Principles -30 hours
b. Basic Appraisal Procedures- 30 hours
c. National USPAP Course- 15 hours
d. Residential Market Analysis and the Highest and Best Use- 15 hours
e. Residential Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach- 15 hours
f. Residential Appraiser Sales Comparison and Income Approach- 30 hours
g. Residential Appraiser Report Writing and Case Studies- 15 hours
h. Statistics, Modeling and Finance- 15 hours
i. Advanced Residential Applications and Case Studies- 15 hours
j. Appraisal Subject Matter Electives- 20 months
k. All education must have been completed no more than 60 months immediately preceding the filing of the application

E. Possess an Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university or 21 college semester hours in specific subject matters
F. Must have completed 1,500 hours of qualifying experience obtained in no fewer than 12 months and no more than 60 months preceding the filing of an application for certification.
G. Pass exam and pay applicable fees

Certified General Appraiser Education Requirements

A. Be 18 years of age or older
B. Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
C. Pass background check and submit fingerprints to state
D. Complete 300 hours of education to include:

a. Basic Appraisal Principles- 30 hours
b. Basic Appraisal Procedures- 30 hours
c. National USPAP Course- 15 hours
d. General Market Analysis and the Highest and Best Use- 30 hours
e. General Appraiser Sales Comparison Approach- 30 hours
f. General Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach- 60 hours
g. Statistics, Modeling and Finance- 15 hours
h. General Appraiser Report Writing and Case Studies- 30 hours
i. Appraisal Subject Matter Electives- 30 hours

E. Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
F. Must have completed 3,000 hours of qualifying experience obtained in no fewer than 18 months and no more than 60 months immediately preceding the filing of an application. At least 50% of the appraisal experience must be in nonresidential appraisal work.
G. Pass exam and pay applicable fees

Appraiser Continuing Education Requirements

A. Renewal periods are every 2 years
B. Complete 30 hours of education to include 1 7 hour national USPAP update course, completed by April 1st of the year a new edition of the USPAP becomes effective.
C. Review Online Instructions document before renewing online
D. Submit completed application and pay applicable fees.

Exam Provider Information

A. Before sitting for exam, education and experience must be approved by the Real Estate Appraiser Board.
B. Review Candidate handbook before exam day to ensure fully prepared for exam.
