Trainee Real Property Appraiser

1 | 75 Hours of Education

Complete the 75 hours of education required for the Trainee Real Property Appraiser

2 | Take the Minnesota Supervisor Trainee 6-Hour Course

Register for the approved, Minnesota Supervisor-Trainee Appraiser Course to meet the state requirements.

3 | Report to the State

Report to the state the name and address of the supervisory appraiser(s): https://mn.gov/commerce/licensees/appraiser/

4 | Apply for Your License

Apply for your license with the state.

5 | Maintain Your License

Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser

1 | 150 Hours of Education

Complete the 75 hours of additional education required to meet the mandated 150 total hours of education for the Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser. 

2 | 1,000 Hours of Experience

Complete 1,000 hours of appraisal experience under the direction of a supervisor in no fewer than 6 months.

3 | Submit Fingerprints and Background Check

Submit fingerprints for the background check. Refer to https://mn.gov/commerce/licensees/appraiser/individual-appraiser-residential.jsp and https://pearsonwest.ibtfingerprint.com.

4 | Take Exam Prep Course

Register for the Appraisal Review Crammer course (optional). This optional course will cover exam content and build your test-taking skills to ensure that you pass the Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser Exam the first time!

5 | Take the Exam

Sign up for the Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser Exam. Contact Pearson VUE, the testing service that provides state licensure exams, at 833.273.1946 or https://home.pearsonvue.com.

6 | Apply for Your License

Pass the Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser Exam and apply for your license with the state.

7 | Maintain Your License

Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser

1 | 200 Hours of Education

Complete the 50 hours of additional education required to meet the mandated 200 total hours of education for the Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser. 

2 | 1,500 Hours of Experience

To fulfill the mandated 1,500 hours of experience, complete an additional 500 hours of appraisal experience under the direction of a supervisor. The entire 1,500 hours of experience must be acquired in no fewer than 12 months.

3 | Submit Fingerprints and Background Check
